Imagine a community where everyone has a stable, and affordable place to call home. A place where families and individuals are fostering community through empowering people living in cooperative housing. And a place where our impact expands beyond our houses to our neighborhood, to our beloved Grand Rapids community, and beyond.

 

This is the vision that drives our work at the Grand Rapids Alliance of Cooperative Communities (GRACC), and it's a vision we can only achieve with your generous support.

Since 2012, GRACC has been committed to providing affordable cooperative housing, empowering individuals and families to connect, grow, and create together. Cooperative housing offers a unique model, fostering community, shared responsibility, and long-term affordability.

​

The need for affordable housing is greater than ever. Rising rents and stagnant wages are pushing more and more people to the brink of homelessness. Families are forced to make impossible choices between paying rent, buying groceries, or accessing healthcare. This is unacceptable. But your support of cooperative housing can make a difference in our community's need for affordable housing.

Your contribution will directly support our efforts to:

  • Maintain and improve existing cooperative housing: Ensuring our resident members have well maintained homes. This includes essential repairs, upgrades, and preventative maintenance.

  • Create community building & engagement opportunities: Offering gatherings for exploring and strengthening our awareness of authentic relating, mindfulness, and personal development such as time & financial management, and conflict resolution. And for fellowship with one another through game nights, movie events, member appreciation activities, because we know (research shows this too), that fostering community leads to not just more stable housing outcomes, but also to a sense of housing of choice.

  • Develop more affordable cooperative housing: Expanding our capacity to serve more families and individuals in need. This involves securing financing to acquire existing housing property and overseeing the architectural conversion of the space to provide common use living spaces in order to increase the number of living units available in the same footprint.

  • Advocate for more affordable housing: Through community partnerships and volunteering, so that our resident members can work on creating more equitable housing for all in our community.
     

Every dollar you donate makes a difference. Your generosity will help us provide stability, opportunity, and hope to families and individuals struggling to find affordable housing.

Here's how your gift can impact lives:

  • $30 can help us to offer a warm welcome and onboarding experience for a new resident.

  • $60 can help us print and post flyers around town inviting people who are looking for affordable housing to check us out.

  • $120 can cover the cost of a shared meal for 40 residents.

  • $300 can help to ensure that our website and operations technology empowers our residents to communicate better, manage projects better, and conduct effective meetings so that we can focus more of our time on connecting, growing and creating.

  • $500 can contribute to the cost of repairing a leaky roof or a boiler in one of our historic homes in the Heritage Hill neighborhood.

  • $1,000 can help us cover the legal fees associated with developing a new cooperative housing project.
